The Renewable Revolution is Here, and It’s Fast-Paced
Walking through the 19 packed exhibition halls at Messe München for The smarter E Europe 2026, one thing became instantly clear: the global energy transition is moving at an unbelievable speed. Bringing together four major exhibitions (Intersolar, ees, Power2Drive, and EM-Power), this year’s event was less about theoretical concepts and more about massive, market-ready deployments. Around 105,000 trade visitors from 163 countries flooded into Munich, creating a palpable wave of energy that felt more like a mega-festival than a traditional trade fair.
Munich at Full Capacity
The sheer scale of the 2026 edition was felt long before reaching the venue. The influx of over a hundred thousand international professionals—combined with Munich’s bustling summer event calendar—essentially pushed the city's hospitality sector to its absolute limit. Hotels across the Munich metropolitan area reached 100% capacity, making accommodation a rare luxury and turning the entire city into a massive, interconnected hub for the global energy sector.

The Driving Force: Innovation from the East
A dominant theme across the exhibition floor was the overwhelming and undeniable presence of Chinese technology. Industry leaders from China didn't just showcase products; they defined the next technological benchmarks.
Huawei made waves by officially upgrading its energy storage brand to LUTERRA, unveiling a massive grid-forming energy storage platform designed for utility-scale efficiency.
BYD Energy Storage launched its comprehensive "Residential Energy Ecosystem" alongside the new Battery-Box Mega, blurring the lines between commercial power and easy residential installation.
Envision rolled out its cutting-edge 4.X MWh long-duration storage systems, promising to boost project returns significantly through advanced silicon carbide electronics.
Conversations with exhibitors on-site echoed a common reality: the heart of the renewable manufacturing chain, particularly in solar PV and battery storage, is heavily anchored in China's rapid innovation ecosystem.

Looking Ahead: The Smarter E Europe 2027
The overriding takeaway from the 2026 event is that fossil fuels are firmly being pushed into the past, replaced by decentralized, digital, and 24/7 flexible green energy setups. The momentum built here is already shifting focus to next year. Organized by Solar Promotion GmbH, the next gathering has been officially locked in: The smarter E Europe will return to Munich from June 8–10, 2027.
